Alberta Winter Games

Team Parkland Wrestling

The Alberta Winter Games provides a competitive opportunity for the province’s best young
developing athletes aged 11-17 to compete in a multi-sport Games. Since the first Alberta
Games in 1974, thousands of athletes and coaches have celebrated and competed in every
part of Alberta, in an effort to reach their full athletic potential.

The Alberta Winter Games are a provincial competition held every second year (even). In order to ensure that the Games include participants from every part of Alberta, the province has been divided into eight zones.

Playoffs or zone team selections will take place in each of the eight zones and participants will
compete for their zone at the Alberta Games.

The Alberta Winter Games also serve the following general purposes:
• to motivate Albertans to achieve a higher level of physical fitness through more active
participation in sport;
• to assist athletes with the interest and ability to work toward their maximum potential;
• to provide competition that will serve the developmental needs for each sport throughout
Alberta;

• to showcase the talents of Albertans in a wide range of sport and activities;
• to develop the cultural and social components as an enhancement to Games in Alberta;
• to provide each hosting community with a legacy of experienced volunteers and
upgraded facilities; and
• to assist in the preparation of potential athletes for the Canada Games, where possible.

TEAM PARKLAND 2018

The 2018 Alberta Winter Games saw Parkland send 11 wrestlers to the Games with eight fills from other zones. The team wrestled hard and was mere points away from winning every round on day one. Day two started off with the zone competing for seventh place. Winning by a landslide, each and every athlete wrestling to their potential. Point standings brought the team into the individual medal rounds later in the day. Seven competitors out of the 19 went on to fight for medals.

Congratulations to our Parkland individual medalists.

The Athletes fought with determination, they walked onto the mats every single time with strength, pride and sportsmanship. As a community, we couldn’t be more proud. The showing by the Parkland Zone 4 Team of 2018 has us knowing these athletes will continue to grow and succeed. Keep your eyes open, for these young wrestlers are your future Olympians.

Once again thank you, to the coaches, the parents and all the volunteers. A huge thank you to our three sponsors Drillers Directional, Denali Oilfield Services and FSR. Without the tremendous support, time, efforts and dedication to rural wrestling and your communities young athletes we
would never have accomplished such wonderful results.
